HELIANTHUS ANNUUS ‘GALAXY’

Botanical Name:- Helianthus annuus
Family:- Compositae
Common Name:- Sunflower
Class:- HHA

Seed Count:- 19 seeds/ gm; 540 seeds/ Ounce

Seed required for 1000 plants:- 75 gm

Variety Description
Height: 100-150 cm, a medium tall variety which is quick flowering and maturing, flowering approximately 65-75 days from sowing and is non-branching, male sterile (no pollen type), with long yellow petals and a dark centre. Galaxy is a ‘Sunrich’ class of variety and makes an excellent choice for use as cut flowers.

Sowing and Germination
For seedlings: Rapidly germinating, keep seed in constant moisture (not wet!) with temperatures at about +20 deg. C. Seeds must be covered thinly. Germination can be slow and somewhat irregular, but this should not cause any problems.

Alternatively for field scale production Galaxy can be direct sown, if the seeds are treated, into warmer soils after any risk of frost has passed. Earlier crops still, can be obtained by covering the soil with fleece 2-3 weeks both before and after sowing.

Growing on
For seedlings: Keep in cooler growing conditions after germination occurs.
