Variety Description
Lupin Lulu is a dwarf Lupin growing to 60cm (2 feet) in height. It has
a good colour range including shades of yellow, rose, brick red, orange,
pink, blue and white. Lulu will flower in the first year from early sowings
making it ideal for smaller gardens.
Sowing and Germination
Sowing period January to July. The seeds should be sown in pots or trays
and covered with 1/2” (1cm) of compost, germinate at 15 to 18 degrees
Centigrade, germination will take place within 10-20 days. To aid germination
the seeds should be soaked in water overnight prior to sowing.
Alternatively the seeds may be sown in April to July either in the open
gound in a seed bed or under protection ,tranplanting when large enough
to their final positions for flowering in the following year.
Growing on
The plants should be pricked out and grown on in small pots 10cm (4”)
and hardened off prior to planting. Those from early sowings should be
planted in May and they will flower from August onwards, later sowings
should be gown on and planted in the open ground in their final position
in July /August spacing them 60cm (2 feet) apart where they will flower
from May to August in the following year.
Pests and Disease
Aphids and Powdery mildew are the most common pest and disease on Lupins,
though Colletotricum and Botrytis can be a problem in some areas.
